You are definitely not alone!!

Stress Incontinence is more common than you may think affecting up to 1 in 3 woman, and 1 in 10 men worldwide!

Involuntary loss of urine is known as urinary incontinence. There are a few types of incontinence of which stress incontinence is one.

What are the different types of Urinary Incontinence?

There are 3 types of incontinence:

Type 1: Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI)

SUI happens when the pressure in the abdomen suddenly increases (e.g. with laughing, coughing, exercising or sneezing), and this places pressure on the bladder, causing a leak. There are a wide variety of causes, but the most common include: pregnancy, child birth, certain medications, ageing, and prostate surgery.

Type 2: Urge Urinary Incontinence (UUI)

This occurs when you have a sudden urge to urinate. The bladder contracts when it shouldn’t, and this causes the leaks. This is often referred to as an overactive bladder, bladder spasms or irritable bladder. There are many causes of UUI, these include: a bladder infection, stones, diseases and injury to the nervous system.

Type 3: Mixed Urinary Incontinence (MUI)

Due to the fact that MUI is a combination of SUI and UUI, MUI shares the symptoms of both. This form of incontinence shares the causes of both forms as well, however MUI is the most common form of incontinence experienced by older women.

Identifying which type of incontinence you have can assist you in deciding which management products are best suited and which treatment options are available. Keeping a diary of when and how often you use the bathroom; when and how much you leak; what and how much you ate or drank, as well as any associated symptoms (including burning with urination), can greatly assist in the correct diagnosis

Incontinence affects millions of people world wide, you are not alone!
